Custom engraved metal plaques Adelaide brass and aluminium

General Information

Materials

We produce plaques in a range of metals. See each material type for details:

Choosing the right plaque depends on a few things - where it's going, what it needs to say and the look you're after. We're happy to talk through the options and help you decide.

  • Style - modern or traditional? Does it need to match existing signage?
  • Location - indoors or outdoors? What kind of weather will it face?
  • Content - some materials have limits on letter sizes or detail. We'll let you know what works.

Fonts (Letter Style)

Almost any font can be engraved, though very small text and fancy scripts can be tricky. Serif fonts like Times Roman use thin strokes that don't always reproduce well at smaller sizes - we'll advise on what reads best.

Graphics, Artwork, and Logos

Simple, clean images and logos can be engraved, but engraving works on flat surfaces only - 3D sculpted effects aren't possible. Fine detail has limits; photographic images and colour gradients can't be reproduced. We'll let you know if your artwork will work or if it needs adjusting.

For best results, supply artwork in a vector format:

  • EPS or PS
  • AI (Adobe Illustrator)
  • PDF vector

Don't have a vector file? No problem - we can create one for you (charges may apply). Send your artwork through early so we can check it. We also keep a library of common artwork and can discuss options if you're not sure.

Colours

Engraved lettering is filled with paint in a single colour by default - just about any colour you can think of. Different sections (like headings vs body text) can use different colours if they're well separated.

How Long Will It Last?

All our metal plaques - aluminium, stainless steel, brass and cast bronze - are built to last for decades. Exactly how long depends on the environment, but even in tough conditions you can expect many years of service.

Size

There are no standard sizes - common options include A4 (30cm x 21cm) and 35cm x 25cm, but we can make just about any size you need. Squarer proportions tend to look more balanced. Talk to us about what will work best for your space.

Factors to Consider

  • What's the purpose - commemoration, information or memorial?
  • What wording needs to go on it?
  • Is there a logo or image to include?
  • Are there size limits where it's going?
  • How and where will it be mounted?

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to produce a plaque?

Most engraved plaques are completed within 7-10 business days from artwork approval. Complex designs or cast bronze plaques may require additional time. Contact us for current lead times.

Can I see a proof before production?

Yes. We will prepare a digital proof showing your wording, layout and font before any engraving begins. Revisions are included until you are satisfied.

What colours can the engraved lettering be?

Virtually any colour is available. We fill engraved letters with a single colour by default. Different sections (e.g. heading vs body) can use different colours where they are well separated.

What is the smallest text size you can engrave?

Minimum legible text size depends on the material. For brass and aluminium, 6â€-8 mm letter height is the practical minimum. Stainless steel is harder to engrave and requires slightly larger text.

How are plaques mounted or installed?

Most plaques are fixed with screws or adhesive depending on the surface and location. We can advise on the best method and provide installation services across Adelaide, SA and Broken Hill.

Do you deliver plaques?

We offer delivery or collection from our Edinburgh workshop. Installation is also available within Adelaide, regional South Australia and Broken Hill.
